Feed Sponge v1.3.8

Dec. 27, 2010, 7:59 p.m.

I took some time over the Holidays to put together a new release of The Sponge.

Highlights of this release include an ongoing notification for playback, the ability to disable the Next feature, a per-feed setting to force audio or video mode, and a couple of bug fixes.

Among the bug fixes the most notable was a user-agent change in the feed update code that downloads podcast logos. A certain large publisher started customizing their website for use with Android handsets. Awesome! The side effect is that requesting what appears to be a static JPEG file actually results in downloading javascript-screen-resolution-detecting-redirect HTML. This is not a JPEG and trying to treat it like one results in a black box. This is far better than a crash but pretty ugly. It took me a while to figure out what happened as it looks great as long as you don't appear to be using a mobile browser.

I applaud their effort to be inclusive of mobile platforms, I just wish it didn't break my app.
